Peace. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlR9DN... Recently at a Battle of the Bands at a local venue here in St. Louis, a group of about 8 angry Nazi's stirred trouble in the crowd. Their hatred was tattooed on their arms, backs, chests and hearts, it was vocalized by group chants. One guy took off his shirt in the club, revealing his Nazi Propaganda tattoos in order to stir trouble. I couldn't help but feel perturbed, afraid for people of color, concerned for the young ladies who were participating in the Nazi chanting, and for innocent bystanders who might have been harmed by what surely was to ensue when drunken hooliganism came to a head. I was disheartened that a person, a group of people would be so ignorant and so hateful, I was angry that drugs, poverty, addiction, & ignorance could lead members of our society so far astray. One of the Nazi's started a fight with a black guy, and a concerned lady called the police. The Nazi's all fled. Not one of them had the courage to stick around and cheer for the band they came to support. Though I was relieved that they were gone, I felt like I hadn't done anything to show my objections. I felt that I must take some action in order to end such ignorance. The best action I could take is to offer education, to share what I know to be true, that all men are created equal. My brother recently expressed his fear that Barack Obama could be assassinated by such people if he were to win the nomination for President. I had dismissed such fears, citing Obama's courage and determination to do what is right despite his fears. Having now seen such hatred in action, I am sure that these are people who would stop at almost nothing to get the chance to do him in, and so I share this song hoping that it might make a difference. The song you hear was written and performed by a friend of mine. It is called "The Sun Shines Down" and I share it with you for the sake of peace. In the hope that ignorance, hatred, and bigotry will be forever challenged with words of peace, compassion, unity, understanding, and brotherhood. "THE SUN SHINES DOWN" Sunday morning I lie awake & Wonder what I will become What will lie behind me in my wake? Will I be alone? Echoed words speaking of redemption in a church I never see. I put it off another week, but I never put it down. Because the sun shines down on me, the same it shines down on you, don't matter what I do. My daddy grew up a poor man in a land of wealth. What he lacked in riches he made up in wisdom and in health. He said tell me son what are you gonna be? Just make your mother smile. There goes my son on a thousand mile march to make himself into a man. Echoed words speaking of redemption from a man I must believe. He never lead me to a lion's den that I couldn't defeat. He says the sun shines down the same on me and you. The Sun Shines Down the same on me and you. Its what you do with the light that gets you through. My daddy grew up poor in a land of wealth. What he lacked in riches he made up in wisdom and in health. Echoed words speaking of redemption from a man I must believe. He's never lead me to a lion's den I just could not defeat. The sun shines down on me the same as it shines down on you. The sun shines down the same on me and you. It is what you do with the light That gets you through. Yeah its what you do with the light that gets you through. Further reading: Shel Silverstein "Where the Sidewalk Ends" the poem 'No Difference'

Apr 25, 2008 - Very nice Sergio. I have often felt as you did at that concert, helpless or that I had not done enough to show my disagreement. What a beautiful and peaceful way to share your message. I hope that it is heard. - Tom
